A Good Parent Has To Stop Behaving Like A Child
Being a parent is like working on those school management jobs which keeps you in close proximity of children without actually getting involved in children issues. This may sound surprising because one would expect parents who spend a lot of time with the children to behave like them. Well, just because you spend a lot of time with children does not mean you have to behave like them.
Let us get this straight - you cannot bring up your kids properly by behaving like one yourself. Do you communicate matters fully? Do you give the other party a chance to explain before losing your temper? Do you believe in discipline and consistency? If not, then you are behaving like a child yourself. Many persons believe that children are the paragon of innocence.
Well, an infant may be innocent and nice but young kids can be really troublesome. This does not make them bad. They just don’t understand the difference between mischief and bad manners. The onus is upon the parent to explain these issues. You will have to set the bar and make sure that it is maintained high at all times.
I remember my father creating a big fuss about hygiene. As a child, I found it to be a complete waste of time. I obeyed rules to escape the criticism. Well, I now say that my father did the best possible job of imbibing discipline in me. The only way to do so as to behave like an adult and be confident about the fact that you know what is good for your kids better than they do.
