Horse Sense
I am shocked by all of the advice out there on how to make bedtime easier. Of course, it is nice and makes sense: calm your child down, have a ritual, read a story. This is all based, however, on the child not wanting to go to bed. Mine were always begging for bedtime, because by seven pm they were exhausted. Most children are like dogs and race horses, they are most happy when active. If families fully integrate exercise into their life style then everybody will sleep better and be much happier.
Mums and dads are incredibly busy these days, and if both work, it seems that there is extra pressure to make your family perfect. That is why I say FULLY INTEGRATE exercise. Don’t just go for a walk, have walking be part of your transportation plan. My daughter and son in law are a great example. He sells insurance, she is a school teacher. The whole family has become involved with therapeutic horseback riding. As a family they go every weekend to a centre where the kids ride, and help others learn to ride. He has started selling equine liability insurance as part of his job. He will even take the youngest ones on business outings when he goes to visit stables in the country. He easily could have gone another way with his career, but integrating horses and horse back riding into their lives has meant that the whole family is less stressed and better adjusted.

It is best to think of your family as a team. If you organize activities only for the kids, that the parents hate, it will lead to an imbalanced life style. It will also result in the kids craving attention that they aren’t getting naturally. Have fun and stay healthy together, it just makes sense.
