Good Manners Family Lessons Matter
When I look at kids today, I realize the importance of having a large family where kids can learn good stuff from each and every family member. We used to live in a joint family and we always had people bringing in eatables and toys for kids. We established a rule where kids would have to loudly thank each and every person who brought something for them when they returned from work.
We insisted that it should be done in public to ensure that kids never felt shy about thanking somebody for a favor or gift that they had received. Today, I find children demanding 4x4 cars from visitors who have brought ordinary cars from a toy store. In my times, children would have thanked the individual loudly and would have been very gracious about the entire matter. Of course, there is no point in blaming the kids because kids learn from their parents.
The child probably saw his or her mother demanding more from the father when he brought a gift home. If the mother had thanked the father in a gracious tone, the child would have learned and acted accordingly. However, the child probably concluded that it was best to demand more and more from the person offering the gift.
As an adult, it is the responsibility of each and every member of the family to ensure that kids grow up with the best manner possible. It does not matter whether the child is yours or belongs to your sibling. Your interest and responsibility cannot waver.
